The Flax Hollow Farm Intern & Owner and Farmer of Tinhorn Farm

Welcome to Flax Hollow Farm!

Hi, I’m Caelin G-S farmer and owner of Flax Hollow Farm in Coeymans, New York. I’m a farm kid and Hudson Valley native with passion for agriculture and beauty.

Flax Hollow Farmwas started from a dream- to grow plants with the agricultural practices I believe and build a multigenerational farm business on my childhood family farm. So in fall of 2022 I quit my job in commercial agriculture to pursue this dream. Over the last 2 seasons my Intern (my dad) and I have cultivated a ¼ acre annual field, Planted our our very own Daffodil Hill with 28 unique daffodil varieties, and expanded to a new ¼ acre perennial field being planted out in fall of 2024.

How did I get here? As a kid we grew vegetables spending the season seed starting, transplanting, harvest and selling our produce at many local farmers markets. As a young adult most of my jobs consisted of working for small organic farms or other small local businesses here in the capital region. I then spent 3 years growing one of New York's largest medical cannabis grows. Feeling burnt out on the corporate structure and agricultural practices I did not agree with, I craved creating something that truly felt like mine. I feel as if flowers found me more then I choose to be a flower farmer. I was planting at least a couple rows of cut flowers purely for the joy their beauty brings most of my life. I took on the task of growing all the flowers for my own wedding in 2022 while still working full time, so in spring of 2023 it felt like natural progress to try and scale that up and grow my first full field of flowers.

What are my agricultural practices? I pride myself on utilizing organic and sustainable agriculture practices. I’m not the first person to cultivate this land and I don't want to be the last. I think it's important to reflect on what impact I have on the soil and surrounding ecology each season and provide habitat for our natural beneficials to seek home.  I’m lucky to have grown up my farmland and see the natural cycles, the weed flare ups and insect infestations my parents have managed over the years on the farm and been able to learn these skills for myself with their guidance.

What does Flax Hollow Farm offer? My focus is offering fresh cut flowers here in the Hudson Valley. The majority of my fresh cut flower business is focused on offering wholesale flowers to florists and floral designers in the region. It's also important to me to have a local presence here in my howtown of Coeymans, NY and share the beauty of flowers. I do this by offering a small CSA membership each year and hosting a pop-up flower stand on the farm most Friday evenings during the season. Check out the wholesale or CSA pages to learn more about how I bring flowers into your life.
